Garment District Workers KETC | Living St. Louis | Producer Jim Kirchherr takes a look back at the garment-making industry in St. Louis. Now known as the loft district on Washington Avenue, during the Great Depression the garment district was filled with clothing companies that brought jobs and financial hope to families in despair. Garment workers were mostly teenage women and they picketed for the creation of unions.
